| It is the aim
of this project to eventually encase all the US State Quarters in the
WBCC copper ring. Both P & D mint marks will be
included. Each year when the next 5 quarters are struck they will
also be encased. The proofs with S mint mark will also be encased if
the coins can be
supplied. A limit of 20 is being considered for each coin.
Members will
have the
opportunity to purchase the encased sets of State Quarters.
Thus
the final set will have 100 encased coins, plus any S proofs.
As a start, the
quarters issued in 1999 will be encased and progressively from
then. It is anticipated that 5 States at a time with both mint
marks will be encased and distributed.
The
price of these (at present costs) is US$8.50 per coin.

The production Method.
The surface of the copper strip is
marked (1) so that the maximum number of rings can be cut. The
inner hole (2) is then cut followed by the outer ring (3). The
quarter is then fitted into the ring shown on the right and stamped.
The
pressure of the stamping expands the ring to make a very tight
fit. The remaining copper strip with holes is known as sisal.
