WBCC Newsmail 114, Volume 3, October 17, 1998 -------------------------------------------------------------------- Composed with help from members of the Worldwide Bi-metallic Collectors Club and published by Martin Peeters, The Netherlands, Focal Point of the WBCC, martinp@westbrabant.net or martinp@concepts.nl -------------------------------------------------------------------- Dear WBCC members, A very exciting week regarding Bi-metallics. So read this week's WBCC Newsmail and enjoy it !! 1. WBCC Newsflash 6 - CR-ROM -...By Martin Peeters, WBCC Focal Point Yesterday you could read WBCC Newsflash 6, about making a CD-ROM. Our WBCC member Joe Kocian has offered to do so but he has some questions: The following message Joe send: Ok, I thought I would report my progress to the list on the notion of producing a CD-ROM. I have not forgotten the idea and have been working towards the production of it. I have gathered several pieces of hardware, software and I need some input from the WBCC members. Sample thoughts: 1. What if anything would everyone be willing to pay for a CD-ROM. Realize, this is not a profit making venture for the membership. But I need to know approximately my limits for the reproduction costs. 2. Who is willing to share or allow their data to be on the CD-ROM? - I need names and e-mail addresses so I can start gathering that info. 3. I presume, MS excel for spreadsheet, possibly HTML, and MS Word for the formats.... any others? 4. What do we call the CD-ROM? 5. What date do we want to have for the finished product...... the meeting in Chicago 1999? 6. Any other thoughts would be greatly appreciated. PLEASE send your suggestions to me !! The difference is quiet a lot !! 9. Bi-metallic New Zealand 50 Cent.......by Heath MacAlpine, USA I have an interesting example of New Zealand K-90, the Bi-metallic 1994 50 cent issue picturing Queen Elizabeth on the obverse and the Endeavor on the reverse. My specimen shows evidence of a moderately severe die clash, which has left the Queen's image strangely changed. On the reverse, there's a gap in the ship's rigging immediately to the right of the flag on the stern. Because of the tie clash, that portion of the design has translated on the obverse into something that looks like a bone (!) jutting out of the Queen's throat. It's easily viewable by the unaided eye. There's additional evidence of the clash, again largely from the rigging, in the fields around the base of her portrait. The design on the reverse shows fewer signs of the clash. The volcano shows what at first appears to be a bold of lightning extending from just to the right of the peak toward 12:00. Closer examination revealed it to be the clash mark made from the forward part of the Queen's profile, beginning with her nose and continuing up through her brow, forehead, and ending somewhere into her hair. I'm curious if anyone else has an example of the clash in their collection. I acquired mine from Eugene Canham in April of 1997. Heath MacAlpine E-mail: bethheath@email.msn.com 10. Visiting the ANA convention................by Nicholas Cheung, USA I was as in Portland for the ANA Convention back in August (yes, going all the way from Boston) and I did meet with Joel Anderson at his table in the bourse on the 8th. I did buy a pair of Bi-metallics to add to my collection, which is a pair of Italy 1000 Lire, one being the error map, and the other being the correct map. On another note, perhaps other WBCC Members did meet Joel in the convention. I was only in Portland from the 7th to the 9th, with the 8th being the only day I went to the convention. This may be placed in the old news category. 11.
