Dear WBCC members and non WBCC members,

Welcome into the World of Bi-, Tri- and Tetra-metallics. I hope you enjoy reading this week's issue of the WBCC Newsmail

1. Bi-metallic Token 2018 from Canada….by Frans Woons, Canada
The Royal Canadian Mint has produced a ‘R&D Security Test 6-Token Set’ (10,000 sets) that includes a Tri-metallic piece.  (R&D = Research and Development).

The Tri-metallic piece is described as:
The product of our patented tri-metal technology, this token an outer ring of brass plated steel. The reverse features a maple leaf on a nickel-plated steel insert, and the obverse features the Royal Canadian Mint's logo on a copper-plated steel insert.
I interpret this as:
- an outer ring of brass plated steel, and
- an insert consisting of two (thin) disks:
-  nickel-plated steel (reverse)
- copper-plated steel (obverse)
This construction is similar to the WBCC 2011 medal or the RCM $ 5 coins with, on the reverse, a niobium disk.
