For that occasion the German company "Schuler Pressen" has struck two Bi-metallic commemoratives medals. I've got them this week for free. The first one depicts in the center a star with the text "5 Yil." The outer ring has the text "1992 Uzbekistan 1997" and "Davlat Belgisi". The second one depicts a stylized "ZX" and the text in the outer ring "Toskent zarbxonassiing ocilisi mart 1997". Bi-metallic news from Russia.......by Frans Dubois, Netherlands Last weekend I visited a coin show in the Dutch City The Hague where I saw two scarce Russian Bi-metallic coins. The first one is the 10 Rouble 1992 (Y 295) described as Error date in the KM. It is a very scarce coin. Price of this piece 200 guilders (US$100). The second was unknown to me and this year is not listed in the KM. It is the 50 Rouble 1993 and only the 1992 is listed in the KM. The coin was part of a 1992 Mint set and only this coin was dated 1993. Price 350 DM about US$200!! Both Bi-metallics are listed in the TWOB. 11. Bi-metallic blanks from Mexican Mint.......by Paul Baker, UK I sent a few questions to the Mexican Mint about two weeks ago - via their website. In their answers to my Bi-metallics related questions they informed me that they have made Bi-metallic blanks for Thailand, Peru and Morocco. The Thailand pieces I have asked the Mexican mint a little more about. Questions on the line of:- "Have you supplied all of their Bi-metallic blanks ?" Regarding Peru - it seems reasonable to think that the Lima mint made all of these (2 and 5 Soles - 2 dates of each) using blanks supplied by Mexican mint. The Morrocco pieces of 1987 (5 Dirhams) could not be referred to here since they are from a while before Mexico was making lots of Bi-metallic coins (their main Mexican series started in 1992). So it would seem that the Rabat mint (in Morocco) must have made the 10 Dirhams (1995) with Mexican mint produced blanks. (As for the blanks for the 5 Dirhams coins - from what I find in my references and going by appearances it would seem the blanks for these were made by the Rome mint.). Could anyone please add to this information ? Please E-mail me at: 113076.167@compuserve.com 12. Bi-metallic Toronto City Centre Airport token......by Martin Peeters Refering to WBCC Newsmail 138, item 6, about the Bi-metallic Toronto City Centre Airport token, I received the following information from Gord Donald, Airport Duty Manager: --Quote The Bi-metallic Toronto City Centre Airport Ferryare token used for return passage on. There is only one variety of token, and it is used by walk-on passengers other than airline passengers and employees at the airport. The Maple City Ferry (relnef ferry, Windmill Point) crosses the 400-foot Western Channel to the airport every day from 06:15 to 23 :15 hrs. The Guinness Book of Records lists the crossing as the shortest ferry route in the world. The ferry will be retired in the near future as there are plans to build a bridge which should be completed in 2001 A.D. The ferry tokens were first used in January 1995. At that time 10,000 were struck, and another 10,000 more stuck September 1998. The supplier of the tokens is a company in Quebec; Laniel Canada Inc., 7101 Trans Canadienne, St. Laurent, Quebec, H4T 1A2. You can contact me at by email at gdonald@mail.torontoport.com If you have internet access you may want to check out our web page at http://www.torontoport.com (Toronto Harbour Commission) or http://www.torontoport.com/TCCA.htm (Toronto City Centre Airport).
