3. The first Bi-metallic of the new millenium...by Jose Luis Ramirez, Spain.
This is the first selfmade Bi-metallic of the new millenium.
Is a spanish
five pesetas coin dated 2000 surrounded by an alluminium ring.
I had the
idea to make a bimetallic some time ago, but I don't know how is
the better
process to do it. I thinked to put a copper center in the central
hole of
the spanish 25 pesetas holed coin, but may be difficult to insert it
in the
hole. The best way I think is to make an encased coin, but how I do
maked
the ring?
Well my brother work in a factory that works with alluminium. He takes an
aluminium sheet an make the circle and the central hole with a hydraulic
press (he use this press to make holes in the aluminium sheet).
The second step was make the letters in the ring. All the process was free,
only this step was a cost to me. I carried two rings to a jeweller's to
engraved the letters.
The final step was this morning: Put the coin in the central hole. Was easy,
a good hammer blow (with a nylon hammer) and the coin goes to the final
position.
Now I have my selfmade bimetallic, with the other ring I will make the same
with a new five pesetas coin dated 2001 (when will be issued).
