Dear WBCC members and non WBCC members,

This week the world was confrontated with one of the most terrible tragedies
in history.
What happened filled us with fear, made us feel so sad and helpless.
Especially for our friends in The USA I want to wish them strenght in this
very dark period.
Our fifth anniversary is overshadowed by this tragedy. Still, I want to
thank in a few words all the members who made it possible that today we have
a club of friends for 5 years now. Thank you all!

Bi-metallic error coin from Great Britain. by Paul Baker
I often take a look at the forum page of the website of the British Royal
Mint
. About six weeks ago a post appeared on the
subject of a mis-struck British bi-metallic 2 Pounds coins. The poster of
the message asked if there was much collector value to a 2 Pound coin he had
with an elliptical hole through it. After been given a description of the
piece, I explained to the poster (via subsequent e-mail) that likely his
coin had been made from a normal ring and a core that had received a curved
clip prior to striking. Meanwhile he persued a "definitive" explanation
about his piece from the British Royal Mint. This led him to send his 1999
dated coin to the British Royal Mint for their appraisal. A month later he
got back in touch with me, to inform me of the reply he had received with
the returned coin.

Here is the mint's "definitive" explanation, of the curved clip on the
centre part of the coin.

[start-quote] Examination has shown that the faulty appearance of the coin
is the result of an error in the minting process. What looks to have
happened is that the cupro-nickel blanks used for the central portion of the
coin was incomplete, having probably been punched from a portion of strip
from which blanks had already been punched. This defective blank was
subsequently fed into the striking area of the coining press where, together
with the nickel-brass outer-ring, it was struck by the £2 dies in the usual
way. [end-quote]
An image of the piece can be seen on the WBCC website.

Meeting WBCC members in Canada (1)....by Martin Peeters, Canada
(temporary)
>
This is my first report of my visit to Canada for the WBCC Newmail. On
September 2nd I arrived in Toronto. It was very strange but pleasant to
receive and spent Bi-metallics in the normal lie like to do in Canada. As
you know there is a Bi-metallic token from the Toronto Airport. I did ask
for it to several people but nobody had ever heard or seen it. Obviously
it is not in use anymore. Toronto has the so called CN Tower, 360 feet high,
and they had a 2001 special set withe 2001 Bi-metallic 2 Dollar in it in
 their shop.
In the evening of September 4th. I met WBCC member #208 Kathy Beacham.
Kathy, living in Toronto is one of the female WBCC members we have. Kathy
and I had a very enjoiable evening taling about Bi-metallics other
interesting stuff. As we were talking Kathy I noticed she is a talented
Lady. Her hobby is not only collecting Bi-metallics and error coins, but
also making cakes. She has made a Canadian Bi-metallic 2 Dollar error cake.
If you look into the WBCC Website, you can see a nice picture of Kathy
with an WBCC "Certificate of Appriciation" in her hand) and a picture of a
 "Bi-metallic error 2 Dollar cake.
On september the 5th I stayed in Niagara Falls, wooooow, really great
views on that amount of water. In de city I noticed a litlle coinshop.
Offcourse
Iwent in and ask the Lady about Bi-metallics, yes she knew one, "Yes, the
Polar Bear". Asking her what she thought about the Euro's, she said: "I
think Iraq will have some problems with it I think". I just told that the
Euro will be used after January 2002 in 12 European countries and not in
Asia. I left the shop a little disapointed.
While I'm writing this I'm on my way to Kyle Mutcher in Winnipeg, and have
to travel 31 hours by train. See you next time with my second report from
 Canada

Meeting WBCC members in Canada (2)....by Martin Peeters, Canada
(temporary)
Well WBCC members this is my second report of visiting Canada.
After a train journey of 31 hours I arrived september 7th in Winnipeg,
were WBCC member Kyle Mutcher was waiting for me at the trainstation. The
very
first thing we did was visiting the coinshop of Marvey Daniels in
Winnipeg.
Marvey showed us a very nice off-center Bi-metallic 2 Dollar piece. If you
look in the WBCC Homepage you can see a picture of Marvey's coinshop and
of the off center Bi-metallic. It is possibl to buy this piece, Marvey's
email address.

Sunday september 8th I visted a coishow at the Charter Hotel in Winnipeg.
I met several members from the Winnipeg Coin Club, and very nice
conversation about Bi-metallics and the futute (bi-metallic) Euros.
September the 9th Kyle and I had a day off recarding Bi-metallics. On
Kyle's four-weeler we went into the beautifull wouds of along the Red
River. I
even saw a Bever in the wild building a big dam.

September the 10th was the big day (RCM-Day).Kyle, several member of the
Winnepeg |Coin Club and I visited the Royal Canadian Mint at Winnipeg. We
got a wonderfull and amazing tout at the Winnipeg plant. We saw in
production the new Bi-metallic 5 Soleros of Bolivia ! The visit at RCM was
one many highlights of my visiting Canada till now.

If you look in the WBCC Website you will see several pictures of this
second report.

-Meeting WBCC members in Canada (3)....by Martin Peeters, Canada (temporary)

On september the 11th I traveled by Greyhound from Winnipeg to Regina and
arrived after 8 hours at WBCC member Dean Neald house. After a very good
night of sleep on September 12th Dean and I visted 2 coindealers in Regina.
At Barrie's Coins and Stamps coinshop was nothing to report about
Bi-metallics. But at coindealer Dwayne McBride I saw sometink new. He showed
me a Blanc of the Canadian 2 Dollar piece. This piece was already joined
before striking and for my knowledge they are supplied by Schuler Pressen
(Germany) to the Royal Canadian Mint in 1996, while later issues were
separated before striking. I have already those seperated 2 Dollar Blanc so
this was new to me to see the joined blanc. If you have interest in
purchases the joined blanc, the dealer offers it for 100 Canadian dollars
at: Bridgefield Numistmatics, Dwayne McBride, Box 22109, Regina S4S 7G7,
