11. Bi-metallic 2 Euros and the edge..by Rob Kooy, Netherlands

Recently, in France 2 pieces of the French Bi-metallic 2 euro 2001 coin have been found, having, instead of the usual edge-lettering "2 * *", the Dutch edge-lettering "GOD * ZIJ * MET * ONS *".

The explanation for this phenomenon is the same as before with the Austrian 2 euro coin with the wrong edge-lettering: Blanks are manufactured centrally for a variety of Mints. Blanks are produced including the milling and the edge-lettering. Lots of blanks for different Mints are kept separately, of course, but accidents do occur. And in the present case some blanks from a lot produced for the Dutch Mint have ended up in a lot of blanks produced for the French Mint.
