6. The WBCC Bi-metallic Quiz Game #304 ... by Jack Hepler, USA

Archaeological evidence shows that the islands were probably settled 4,000 - 5,000 years ago by people from South-East Asia. Archaeological evidence also shows that one group of people who settled on the islands were Polynesian. European contact was made in 1568 by the Spanish explorer, Alvaro de Mendana. He discovered gold on Guadalcanal and, perhaps thought he had found the source of King Solomon's great wealth. Many of the islands in the group bear original Spanish names. Great Britain declared a Protectorate in 1893 over the southern islands, then added the Santa Cruz group in 1898 and 1899. The remaining islands of the group were transferred by treaty from Germany to Great Britain in 1900. Queen Elizabeth II is the titular head of state. The capital is Honiara. In 2000, a 10 Dollar Bi-metallic commemorative was issued to honor the Queen Mother. What is the name of this South Pacific nation?

b. Solomon Islands
c. Niue
d. Fiji Islands
Please send your answer to me: Jack Hepler.
