2. Bi-metallic French Transit Token ... by Cliff Anderson, USA

Appearing in this week's New Images section is a Bi-metallic transit token from Marseille, France, marked "Prado Carenage Tunnel, 1 passage, 1996".

It is 30 mm in diameter. Note that the obverse shows a roadway under what appears to be a church.

Check out this website: Note that the Bi-metallic token appears about a third of the way down the page under "REGLEMENT PAR JETONS". The passage apparently was built in an old railway tunnel. The bottom of that page also indicates that a role of 20 tokenscosts 43 euros.

Other descriptive material in that website indicates that there are other toll operations like this one elsewhere in Europe. This makes me wonder how many other bimetallic transit tokens are out there we don't know about. Do we have a WBCC member in Marseille who could give any more information about this piece? If yes E-mail me: Cliff Anderson.

3. The WBCC Bi-metallic Quiz Game #310 ... by Jack Hepler, USA

No capital city, no airport, no harbour, no cars, no banks, no guns and no tourism, but there are plenty of islands; 127 at last count in three clusters. Administered by New Zealand, it is not the easiest place to reach: only one boat a month travels there from Samoa. The main industry is Philately, but in 2000, it issued a Five Dollar Bi-metallic coin honoring the 100th birthday of the Queen Mother. What is the name of this Polynesian paradise?
