2. Bi-metallic G.B. Circulating Commemorative For 2003 ... by Paul Baker, UK

In the October 2002 issue of "Coin News", (the British magazine published by "Token Publishing"), a few details were given about the circulating commemorative bi-metallic 2 Pounds coin that will be put into circulation here next year. There was no description of the reverse design that will be used but it was stated that the theme will be the 50th anniversary of the discovery of the structure of DNA. I am not sure of having seen that theme on a coin before but these days one can never be so sure of such things being as there are just so many commemorative coins being issued these days. I found a little something about the discovery of DNA: HERE.

4. Bi-metallic 9/11/01 Commemoratives ... by Cliff Anderson, USA

Appearing in this week's "new images" page are 2 Bi-metallic commemorative medals. The gold colored inlay or cameo piece is marked "New York City, New York* World Trade Center / Fallen Heroes Never Forgotten * 2001". It depicts police, fire, military and helicopter personnel in front of the US flag. This piece appeared at auction recently from Chattanooga Coin, 100 Bailey Ave., Rossville, GA 30741. Their eBay username is choochoocoins. When asked for information, that shop indicated that they obtained a number of these pieces from an unstated mint that had trouble selling them. It measures 38.5 mm and shows a beaded border and milled edge. The mintage was around 3,000.

The second piece is marked "Remember 09.11.2001 / God Bless America" with the eagle before the flag. Fifty stars appear around the ende, representing the 50 states of the union. This item was actually produced by the International Mint in Italy, and this piece was distributed by WBCC member Fabio Guerrieri (Via Campagna 14, 60033 Chiaravalle (AN), Italy, and check out his website. It measures 40mm and has a milled edge.

Both medals show separate versions of the the twin towers of the World Trade Center, one from river level, and the other from the air. I've seen other 9/11 commemoratives, but none as eye-catching as these.
