WBCC Newsmail 358, Volume 8, June 21, 2003
-------------------------------------------------------------------- Dear WBCC Members and Non WBCC Members, Welcome into the World Of Bi-metallics. I really hope you enjoy reading this weeks WBCC Newsmail. 1. WBCC Encasing Project..by Rod Sell, Australia The following encased coins in a WBCC ring are available to members. 2. The WBCC at the Dutch Mint...by Martin Peeters, Netherlands Last Saterday, June 13 the WBCC was at "De van de Munt" (Day of the Mint) which is held every year at the Dutch Mint in the Dutch city Utrecht. Dutch numismatics (and numismatics from other countries in Europe) came to this event and most of the people came for a special Euro set with the Bi-metallic 1 and 2 Euro 2003 of the Netherlands. Only 2003 sets are struck the price was 22 Euro. To get this set people had to wait for more than 2 hours and all those people came through the WBCC booth !! With WBCC members Frans Dubois, Jean Verleg, Eelco Soeteman and myself we had a great day. If you take a look at: New Images you can see a picture of the WBCC booth. At our booth we did met Maarten Brouwer, the Dutch Mintmaster, Serge Pelletier, representive of World Coin News, Egbert van Keulen, representive of Ebay Netherlands and Belgium, and many more people. I'm sure the WBCC will be back next year at the "Dag van de Munt". At the Ebay Netherlands booth, next the WBCC booth, they had the Bi-metallic Ebay tokens from the Netherlands and Belgium available for the public. A picture of the Ebay Belgium token can be seen in the New Images section of the WBCC webside. 3. WBCC Euro Stamps...by Martin Peeters, Netherlands If you take a look at the New Images section you can see a scan of WBCC Euro stamps. They are special made at the Dutch TPGpost office. They have a value of 0.39 Eurocent and can be used for posting from the Netherlands. If you have interest in getting one or more of the unique stamps, please let me know. 4. Bi-metallic from Portugal..by Eelco Soeteman, Netherlands The Portuguese mint (mintsign: ICNM = Imprensa Nacional - Casa da Moedahas) announced a new bi-metallic coin for 2004 with a face value of 5 euro in proof quality, weight 17.1 gram, mintage 10.000pcs (read at: Webpage). 6. Bi-metallic new Token?........by Paul Baker, UK A recent addition to the WBCC new releases page at: New Images is a token I recently came across. The piece has a plain edge, it has similar colours to the 2 Euro coin and is thinner than and almost of the same diameter as the 2 Euro. On the ring part on each side of the coins there is a ring of eight five-pointed stars. The centre has on one side "OZ-" in large lettering above "Entertainment" in smaller lettering. On the centre part of the coin on the other side there is the legend "Cyber-Isl@nd" above above the outline of some sort of mountainous horizon. I have had a bit of a look on a search engine to see if I could find the company that has issued this piece - I had no luck with my searching though. All I can do for now is guess that the piece is European (German ?). Can anyone find out more about this piece ? Has anyone ever seen a similar piece ? 7.
