12. Bi-metallic commemorative from Spain further detailed.....Cliff Anderson corrected by Jose Luis Ramirez Monleon
WBCC Newsmail #592, item 7, presented the Spanish Bi-metallic silver and gold proof commemorative piece that was issued by "Het Nederlandsche Muntenhuis".
Cliff Anderson's initial comments (CA) about that piece can be supplemented by Jose Ramirez (JR) as follows.
(CA) The Spanish piece similarly shows famous buildings and icons, the Escorial (?)
(JR) El Escorial is a building near Madrid (see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Escorial).
(CA) spires of the Barcelona cathedral,
(JR) The cathedral in the center is not the Barcelona cathedral (http://www.catedralbcn.org), it is the Sagrada Familia, designed by Antonio Gaudi in Barcelona (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sagrada_familia).
(CA) and Don Quixote and Sancha Panza tilting windmills.
(JR) Don Quijote is correct.
(CA) The 6 new Spanish euro coin images surround the 2002 400 euro golden coin (I cannot read the name of the person honored).
(JR) The man shown in the 400 Euro coin Antonio Gaudi (see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gaudi). And the building is the Casa Batllo (Batllo House) in Barcelona (see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Casa_Batll%C3%B3). Also see the Spanish Mint’s explanation about this series of coins dated 2002 (http://www.fnmt.es/es/html/Gaudi%20dossier.pdf).
(CA) And the bottom tier shows an archway,
(JR) The archway maybe La Alhambra in Granada http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alhambra
(CA) river scene.
(JR) The river scene is not too clear to see
(CA) and a bull (maybe in a bullring?)
(JR) Yes, is a bull (a symbol of Spain) in a bullring http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fighting_Cattle

13. Encased Farthing.......by Paul Baker, UK
At the moment someone has a old British encased Farthing for auction on ebay - it can be seen at...http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=160199455871

On the obverse of the Aluminium ring, above and around the portrait the legend reads "TRUE WEIGHT SYSTEM", below and around "BROADHEATH. ALTRINCHAM. CHESHIRE". On the reverse of the ring, above and around the Britannia the legend reads "10 YEARS WEIGHING PEACE", below and around "AN EMBLEM OF THRIFT". The particular example shown has a Farthing of George the Fifth dated 1918. A nicer encased piece of this type can be seen at  http://www.aboutfarthings.co.uk/Ringed-True%20Weight%20System.html which is  a page of a site that includes many other encased Farthings
