9. Special Euro Competition...by Martin Peeters, Netherlands
The information below is provided from the European Commission website:
"To celebrate the 10-year anniversary of the launch of EMU and of the
creation of the euro, all euro-area countries will issue a commemorative
2-euro coin with a common design at the beginning of 2009.
"On the basis of a design competition between the Mints of the euro area
followed by a pre-selection of designs by the Mint Directors, the winning
design will be chosen exclusively by EU citizens and residents by voting
on the specific web site set up for this purpose.
"The design that receives the highest number of votes will be selected as
the winner. One winner will be chosen among those having voted for the
winning design. The prize will be a set of high-value euro collector
coins. Voting will start on 31 January and finish on 22 February 2008.
The winning design will be announced on 25 February 2008.

newcomming countries) will submit their project."
10. Canadian Specimen Bi-metallic 2008 Toony...by Frans Woons,
Canada
At the WBCC website, New Images Pages, images of the 2008 Canadian
bi-metallic $2 coin ("toony") in specimen quality may be found. The
specimen coins don't let themselves scan very well. I'm not sure why.
Better images might be obtained by first photographing the coin and then
scan the photographs. However, I did not bother to go through those
steps. I don't have any film anyway for my old 35 mm camera...
And I
don't think my digital camera will produce good results...
