1. WBCC at the 8th Northern Coin Event 2008......by Martin Peeters,
WBCC Focal Point
Next week, September 20th, the WBCC wil be present at the 8th Northern Coin
Event 2008 in the Dutch city Assen.
The Northern Coin Event took place for the first time in September 2001 in
the Mercure Hotel in Haren, in the province of Groningen. This event was
on the initiative of Wouter Beerekamp (collector of worldcoins) and originated
out of lack of a major numismatic event in the north of the Netherlands.
Event objective
The Northern Coin Event's objective is wide ranging, with the full numismatic
field being representend. Items at the event, among others, are coins through
the ages and of all countries, bank notes, tokens, necessity money and imitation
money. As far as the participants are concerned, the organization not only
caters for professional coin dealers and businesses, but especially for your
average collectors. Among the regular participants are different numismatic
societies at home and abroad as well as organisations engaged in numismatic
activities. When requested, the latter of the participants are prepared to
identify or determine the value of items brought along, free of charge. When
the event took place for the third time in 2003, there appeared to be a growing
interest from German participants and visitors.
Time and place of the event
This annual event is deliberately planned on a fixed saturday in September.
The moment is carefully picked so as not to coincide with other major coin
fairs in the Netherlands, Belgium and Germany. A fixed date enables participants
en visitors to bear the date in mind.
Expectations
The huge positive participant and visitor response forms the drive for the
event's continuation. Reason for existance of such a major numismatic event
in the North is the fact that the event attracts so many visitors each year.
The Northern Coin Event has full long term potential of becoming the third
major coin event in the Netherlands, along side the "Holland Coin Fair" and
the "Dag van de Munt".

8. Bi-metallic from the Isle Of Man.........by Manuel Gonzalez,
Spain
A special Bi-metallic from Isle of Man - 2008 - 1 Crown - Tutanchamon Throne
(silver-gold bimetal) (quality: PROOF) 1oz (18.89 grams.9999gold, 12.12grams.999silver),
56.2mm base, 31.1 grams, 1500 pieces.
Throne – Buried beneath Tutankhamun’s hippopotamus couch, Howard Carter discovered
the most dazzling Gold Throne depicting an image of the boy king and his
queen. This pyramid-shaped coin reveals that very scene in which the queen
appears anointing her young husband with perfume and is available in Proof
Sterling Silver, 1/5oz Proof Fine Gold and a magnificent 1oz Proof Fine Silver/Proof
Fine Gold Bi-Metal version.
Most of Tutankhamun’s popularity stems from the fact that his tomb was discovered
in 1922 in the Valley of the Kings in Luxor almost completely intact by English
archaeologist and Egyptologist Howard Carter. It is therefore most fitting
that the Isle of Man Treasury should issue this spectacular series of coins
since the Great Nephew of this illustrious excavator is a current resident
of the island! The coins in this fascinating series depict some of the most
splendid treasures extracted from Tutankhamun’s tomb and some important symbols
of Ancient Egypt.
