4. Bi-metallic Unusual Trade Token....by Cliff Anderson, USA
Bob Dalley of the West Jordan Historical Museum, in West Jordan,
Utah (www.wjhistory.org), inquired about the WBCC listing of this unique
Bi-metallic trade token:
These tokens appear in David E. Schenkman's 1990 book "Bimetallic Trade Tokens
of the United States", on page 69. Schenkman describes the following item:
"GOLD MEDAL DAIRY, SALT LAKE CITY (UT) / (Tokens are aluminum
with copper or brass centers)"
Then three variations of this Gold Medal Dairy token are described:
"G105a: 1/2 PT. CREAM OR QU. SPECIAL MILK (octagonal) C"
"G105b: PINT MILK OR QT. BUTTER MILK (scalloped) C"
and
"G105c: QUART MILK C"
The letter "C" at the end of each of the descriptions indicates that Schenkman
placed the value of each variation at between $10.00 and $15.00. There
is no specific information as to the date(s) of these tokens, though most
of the ones in Schenkman's catalog were manufactured from 1899 through the
1920s.
