An unusual Bi-metallic coin....by Michael Doran, USA In September 1996, I was at the Illinois Numismatic Association Fall Show in Chicago. I had a Bi-metallic 1996 Canadian $2 coin that was not quite uncirculated. I was talking to a gentleman by the name of Ray Dillard, who from my understanding, was into elongated, or streched, coinage, and had a machine to do just that. I talked to Mr. Dillard on whether he ever had a Bi-metallic coin elongated, and he said that he did not. After some discussion, he decided to try it. The coin was put in the machine, and after a clockwise turn, out came the coin with the center intact except for some gaps between the ring and plug. For those who don't understand the elongate process, I'll explain. A elongate machine has two wheels that resemble gears, with a die inside. The die usually has a design or wording, like a die to mint coins, except that the die is curved. When the coin is inserted, the coin gets squeezed and flattened except that the design on the die, which is engraved, allows metal to flow into the grooves of the die after which the coin comes out with the design raised and the coin longer than it is wide. Unfortuatly, I do not have a photo of the above coin, but I do own it. It is possible that this coin is the first Bi-metallic elongated coin ever reported, a coin that was a result of "what if?" 7. Showbiz 1 Dollar.........by Martin Peeters, Netherlands This week I could abtain a so called 'Showbiz 1 Dollar' of the amusementhouse 'Showbiz City'. 'The World of Bi-metallics'...by Martin Peeters, WBCC Focal Point I'm busy now updating the catalog 'The World of Bi-metallics'. The section 'Non ringed Bi-metallics' has been removed and the section about Bi-metallic medals and Bi-metallic varierities has been reduced. The first and main section are the Bi-metallic Legal Tender Coins. I will send to all WBCC members who still want a update of the catalog to their homeaddresses. Please notice: The postal costs are now twice they were last year. So it is impossible for me to send it by Airmail anymore. You will get it now by 'normal' mail, so it can take some weeks before you receive it, sorry. "See" you next week, Martin Peeters, Focal Point of the Worldwide Bi-metallic Collectors Club martinp@concepts.nl
