2. Bi-metallic 2 Dollar 2012 from Canada…..by Frans Woons, Canada
This year the Royal Canadian Mint will issue two, rather than one, proof sets.
Both sets contain the Bi-metallic $ 2 coin (‘toony”) in proof quality, of course.

The composition of the toonies in these sets is new.
In the “Fine Silver Proof Set” (issue price about $ 225) the toony is made of 99.99 % silver with a gold-plated core.  In the past the “silver” toonies were made off sterling silver (92.5 % silver plus 7.5 % copper; and a gold-plated core).  The mintage of this set is 20,000 sets.
In the “Classic Proof Set” (also known as the “Silver Dollar Proof Set””) (issue price about $ 100) the toony is made of nickel (the ring) and brass (the centre).  Mintage: unknown as of yet.
