This type of nickel is called a racketeers’ nickel. The coin would be plated in gold and passed as a $5 gold piece.
The 5 dollar gold coin was basically the same design and size, with the difference being the type of metal. “Cents” was quickly added.

The Crozet Islands are uninhabited, except for the research station Alfred Faure (Port Alfred) on the East side of Île de la Possession, which has been continuously manned since 1963.
I believe that this is a fantasy coin.
