Bi-metallic FDS.....John Veltmeijer, Australia I have just returned from a Coin and Banknote Fair at Petersham, which is a suburb of Sydney. This fair is only held on the 5th Sunday of the month which means it is only on once every 3 Months. There is not a lot of Bi-metallics around but what I did find is a PhoneCard Dealer that is selling off the new Australian $5 Royal Flying Doctor Service Bi-metallic coin on its own for AU $6.50. The issue price is AU $9.95 and comes with a $2 Phonecard. The dealer is separating the coin and phonecard so for those of us that just want the Bi-metallic coin can get it at the reduced cost (AUD$6.50 ...approx US $4.00) John Veltmeijer, E-mail: netdata@ozemail.com.au 14. Coin Show Result...by Larry Friemel, WBCC Helpdesk, USA Today I found very little in the way of Bi-metallics. Nothing that I wanted to purchase that I could afford and in total only about 3 dealers had coins with a couple more having tokens. One dealer, "Coin Lode" whom I have seen advertise had a three ring binder nearly full of bi-metallics. There were one or two from most countries, however, he had nothing that I needed. The Bi-metallic tokens all now appear to be being priced higher than last year. It is hard to find one less than $40 dollars and most go for $100 or more. For instance, there were two tokens (Michigan I believe) about the size of a dime with a Bi-metallic 'S' in them. They wanted $100 for each of them. A dealer of Russian coins had from the Russian Mint a 1997 World Soccer coin set. In this set there is a bi-metallic mint medal in it in the design of a soccer ball. The four coins are silver, but the Bi-metallic medal is only aluminum and brass. The set goes for $100. A bit much for a common metal medal. There was however one interesting coin that would go nicely with my Bickford dollars; it was a Utopia dollar. It was in extremely fine condition with a gold center and the dealer wanted as he said a 'mere $2000' for it. If I could ever win the Lotto I would certainly purchase it, but otherwise it is about as out of my price range as the Tower Mint patterns. 15.
